My first car purchase wasn’t your typical one. My brother found the nova for sale on ebay and pointed it out to me. Normally I wouldn’t spend too much time trying to buy a car off of ebay but this nova was in Regina. I stopped by Dean’s house to take a look at the car and when I left I wanted to buy it! He had already started the auction so he planned to let it run through. I bid on it through ebay and ended up winning the auction. At the time the car had no motor in it but a 350 out of Dean’s 74 chevy truck was included with the purchase. Since I had absolutely no knowledge of mechanics and couldn’t put the motor in myself he put the motor in for me in his garage and let me help out so I could start learning. He got the car running and I drove it home which was a scary experience to say the least. The car was running pretty good but the front passenger side caliper was seized and the car pulled hard to the left. The motor didn’t have a carburetor so a junker carb was thrown on top and it had a fairly steady fuel leak from where the fuel line went into the carb. We noticed this on the way home when we got the very strong smell of gas inside the car. After pulling over and popping the hood smoking gas on the hot intake manifold wasn’t a good sign! A bit of jerry rigging later we got the car home the last leg of the journey. The look on my parents face was priceless when we got home. About 2 or 3 years earlier my brother purchased an old VW beetle and the memories from that were flashing before them. I still remember my mom saying how she couldn’t believe I bought the car because it didn’t have door or trunk locks(passenger side lock was missing and trunk lock was punched in).
