The site is fixed

General Update — Luke @ September 7, 2008 9:22 pm

Look at that I quit being lazy for 3 minutes and the site is fixed.  I’ve been swamped the last few weeks with multiple website jobs on the go and university starting.  To top everything off I almost nuked the subaru a week ago.  I went to pick up a friends sister from the football game and didn’t watch the temperature of the vehicle while we were stuck idling in the crowds.  The car overheated and the oil separated.

I noticed all this because the car started ticking really bad.  I noticed my oil pressure was lower then normal and then I noticed my redlined temperature guage.  I imediately pulled over and had the car towed home.  The oil pressure was still low after letting it cool down so I changed the oil and there was oil pressure again but a nasty tick that got extremely loud.  A can of anti stick/lifter quiet that came in a soda can style container and the subaru’s in top shape again.  The plan is to fix the radiator sooner rather then later now.

New Car

General Update — Luke @ August 5, 2008 11:11 pm

Today I purchased a winter beater/daily driver.  I can still pride myself on never owning a cavalier but I do own a station wagon!  It’s a 1986 Subaru AWD Station Wagon.  I will post some pictures later on when life slows down a little bit.  Since I got a car so early on in the summer I will have a bit more money to spend on the nova.  The plan is to go ahead and order a radiator and from there make sure the car is in top running shape.  I still haven’t had a chance to spin the tires with the new motor and I even have an extra set to roast!

After restoring the site when my server crashed I thought the posts here looked a little wimpy.  It turns out the restore didn’t save all of the posts!  Right now only the first sentence is showing.  I’ll be fixing this soon.

Status Update

General Update — Luke @ July 24, 2008 8:43 pm

Cash is tight and expenses are high so the project has been on the back burner.  I’m working full time in construction and when I get home I’ve been building websites to earn extra money.  I need to save atleast $2000 to buy a cheap car to go to university every day this fall.  It’s a 20 minute drive every day to the other side of the city.  6 mpg won’t quite work especially on those -40 days.

An update on the motor.  I haven’t touched it since the break in.  During engine break in there was a ticking noise coming from both valve covers.  I believe it’s the baffles in the valve covers.  White Performance recommended cutting the baffles out because they’ve had lots of clearance problems.  They weren’t cut out of mine.  I’m hoping to find another set of valve covers that I can try.  I’m hoping to order a radiator pretty soon to so the car can be driven again.

I’m still kicking myself for missing a big tire sale yesterday.  A company called Remington tire had gone under and the bank was blowing out their entire inventory.  I missed a brand new set of BF Drag Radials for $60.  How far did I miss them by?  1 hour!!!  It’s going to cost me $400 to get two of those for the back end of the nova now.  They had a full inventory and they were selling tires as cheap as $30.  The majority were BF’s.

My brother got lucky, he went the day before I did.  He got a set of 17″ hankooks for the beetle.  The front’s were I think $65 and the backs were $75.  Regular over $130 / tire!
